This innovative $19M residential complex will offer 42 adapted social housing units, along with specialized facilities (a therapeutic pool, a fitness room) for adults living with a traumatic brain injury or a physical disability.

“Vents d’espoir in the St. Lawrence Valley is the result of a dream: the dream to restore hope and better quality of life to people from our region with a head injury or a motor impairment, so they can thrive and live with dignity.”

The Saint-Rémi Martin-Matte House, spearheaded by the organization Vents d’espoir de la Vallée du Saint-Laurent, is a unique and innovative project in Quebec designed for adults aged 18 to 55 living with a traumatic brain injury or a physical disability. This multifunctional residential complex will feature 42 fully adapted social and affordable housing units, designed to offer a safe, warm, and stimulating living environment that promotes independence, dignity, and quality of life for its residents.

Beyond housing, the project stands out for its specialized facilities, which include a therapeutic pool, an adapted fitness room, and multifunctional community spaces that encourage socialization, activities, and the maintenance of physical abilities. Envisioned as a true alternative to institutional care, this 9th Martin-Matte House will allow individuals with significant limitations to benefit from tailored support while remaining active within their community.

Born from the dream and determination of Sylvie Boyer—who became a caregiver to two children with traumatic brain injuries—this major project is finally coming to fruition after more than 12 years of hard work, mobilization, and resilience. Thanks to an exemplary collaboration between the governments, the City of Saint-Rémi, the Martin-Matte Foundation, private partners, and major donors, this innovative living environment will become an inspiring model for integrated-services housing in Quebec.

The project represents an investment of over $19M and will also allow several eligible households to benefit from the Quebec Rent Supplement Program, ensuring these units remain accessible to individuals with special needs.
