"Two years ago, my life changed completely. After a beautiful day of golf, I fell from a balcony. My head hit the ground violently. I was rushed to the hospital and narrowly avoided brain surgery. The doctors called it a 'small miracle.' Today, I live with some permanent after-effects... and a deep sense of gratitude.
Recovering from a TBI (traumatic brain injury) is a long, difficult, and unpredictable journey. It took time to relearn, to accept my limitations, and to turn this hardship into strength.
In July 2024, during a visit to the Maison Martin-Matte in Sherbrooke, I met people who, like me, had suffered a TBI or a stroke. I realized I could have been in their place. And that I now had a mission: to use my second chance to make a difference.
The Martin-Matte Foundation supports people living with a traumatic brain injury or physical disabilities. On October 18, I will take part in the Bromont Ultra – 80 km. My goal is to raise $5,000 for a cause greater than myself.
Last April, I shared this project with my father. He told me he would be waiting for me at every finish line. He passed away three days later from cancer.
Today, Tuesday, July 8 – the day he would have turned 72 – I choose to share my story in his memory. This project is also a reflection of what he taught me: to push beyond limits and to always reach out to others."
